Barberry

bayberry

Bayberry
The hardy bayberry will add year-round interest to your landscape, with its fine-textured foliage and interesting branch structure. Gray, waxy berries are popular with birds and both the leaves and berries are aromatic. Bayberries do well in almost any soil and grow to 6 to 10 feet tall.

buckthorn

Buckthorn
You will find two varieties of Buckthorn at Wedel's; Columnar and Fineline. These deer-resistant shrubs perform best in sun to partial shade. Growing to 5 to 7 feet, Buckthorns are attractive to birds. These newer cultivars are less invasive than earlier forms.

currant

Currant
At Wedel's you will find Yellow Flowering Currant shrubs that will surely find a place in your landscape! The rounded form of this shrub expands to approximately 6 feet wide and 6 feet tall. Currants thrive in many light conditions and almost any well-drained soil and are drought tolerant. Hummingbirds are attracted to the fragrant yellow blooms that appear in spring. By late summer, the yellow berries turn to black.

dogwood

Dogwood
There are several varieties of Dogwood shrubs from which to choose. Most prefer moist, rich soil, and are ideal for stream or pond banks, as they don't mind wet feet.Dogwoods are deer-resistant and cold tolerant, and are simply beautiful either individually or in an informal hedge.

Not just for Christmas displays! Enjoy Holly shrubs year-round. American and Chinese Hollies feature glossy, sharply pointed leaves and red berries. Japanese Hollies’ leaves are smaller and more rounded. Also included in this group are Winterberries. ninebark

Ninebark
The relatively carefree Ninebark is so named due to its vertically exfoliating bark, which folklore attributed to its having nine layers of bark. There are several varieties available. Ninebark is adaptable to almost any soil and light conditions, and is cold tolerant. There are no significant pest problems with this shrub.

Privet
Often grown as hedges, or to delineate property lines, Privets are a densely leaved shrub. They are hardy and easily pruned. Growing to 6 to 12 feet, they are an ideal choice for screening. After blossoming with small white flowers in the spring, black berries develop and remain throughout most of the year. Birds enjoy both the berries and the protection the Privet offers.

russian olive

Russian Olive
Fast-growing and long-lived, the Russian Olive is upright in habit. Plant in full sun, and enjoy the aromatic yellow flowers and yellow fruit. The foliage is green-gray, and the branches may bear thorns. Russian Olive is drought tolerant.

Smoketree
Smoketree shrubs are deciduous, with an open, spreading form. They do well in full sun, and are not particularly choosy about soil. This multi-stemmed shrub can grow up to 15 feet, but may be pruned to a more managable size.

Sumac
Sumac is a great choice for erosion control on steep banks. It spreads by way of suckers and stolons and can soon form a large colony, 3 to 6 feet tall. This shrub will perform well in hot, dry areas and poor soil. In fall the foliage will turn red.
