have some of the most beautiful foliage around. But hostas
aren't the only perennial choice for shady areas. Wedel's

perennials are available from late April through September.
Consider putting in a wildflower garden in one of your shady
spots. These plants, like Lily-of-the-Valley and Trillium,

Barrenwort
Also known as Bishops Hat or Fairy Wings, Barrenwort has a clumping nature, with light green and bronze foliage. It boasts abundant blossoms of white, yellow, pink or purple that hang in clusters,and will surely brighten your shady spots.

Bleeding Heart
This is truly an old-fashioned favorite. Its elegant arching form and pendulous blooms are perfect in a shade garden. A spring bloomer, Bleeding Heart will die back in summer, but have no fear, it will rise again faithfully each spring! Deer-resistant.

Lamium
This shade loving perennial is attractive even when it’s not in bloom! Some varieties feature silvery green foliage. Lamium is a low-growing plant; compact and spreading in habit, and makes a great ground cover. Lamium is critter-resistant.

Lily of the Valley
The foliage of this old-fashioned favorite resembles that of tulips, but nestled among the leaves are dainty spires of nodding, tiny white bells. Its sweet fragrance fills the early spring air! Lily of the Valley is a wonderful spreading groundcover as it chokes out weeds; perfect for naturalizing woodland lots. An added bonus is that deer and rabbits avoid it!

Snakeroot
Come to Wedel’s and check out the varieties of Snakeroot we have available! This plant thrives in partial to full shade, and prefers moist but not soggy soil. The striking foliage grows to about 4 feet, and carries 12 inch bottlebrush shaped blooms. Snakeroot is attractive to butterflies, but deer, rabbits and squirrels avoid it.
