Dragonhead
The 'obedient plant' or 'false dragonhead' produces striking, two-lipped, snapdragon-like flowers on tall, stiff, square stems. It's Dutch name is 'Scharnierbloemen' what means 'hinge flowers'. Genus members are commonly called obedient plants because each individual flower will, upon being pushed in any one direction, temporarily remain in the new position as if it were hinged.

Streptocarpella
Its name may be a mouthful, but this darling relative of the African violet is quite easy to grow. Best planted in a container, Streptocarpella succeeds in good light, but not direct sunlight. It grows to about 8 inches; its velvety green leaves offset the pansy-like flowers which are usually purple. Bring it indoors in the winter and place it in an east or south window so you can enjoy it all year long!
