How deeply should I plant bulbs?

A good rule of thumb is bulbs should be planted at a depth three times the diameter of the bulb. Small bulbs should be covered with 1-2" of soil. Large bulbs should be planted 6-8" deep.

How do I know which way is up when planting my bulbs?

Most bulbs have a point. This points upward, the flatter side toward the bottom of the hole.

How far apart should bulbs be planted?

Where should I plant spring flowering bulbs?

Where they'll get the warmth from the spring sun. One thing to remember is not to plant in a location that you will later be putting annual plants. Most annual plants require plenty of watering, which would be too moist for the bulbs dormant season.
